Vacation Rental Photography FAQ
These are practical questions vacation rental owners ask about professional photography for Airbnb, Vrbo, direct-booking, and self-managed properties. For full service details, visit our Vacation Rental Photography Services page.
How many photos are included in a vacation rental photography session?
A standard Better Home Photos vacation rental photography session includes a minimum of 30 professionally edited images. Larger properties, additional amenities, and more complex layouts may result in additional images when needed to represent the property clearly.
What areas of the property do you photograph?
Coverage is based on what future guests need to understand before they book. That normally includes exterior arrival views, parking, entry areas, living spaces, kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, outdoor areas, pools, docks, patios, fire pits, game areas, and other guest amenities when applicable.
Should the property be vacant during the photo shoot?
Yes. The property should be vacant and fully photo-ready at the scheduled time whenever possible. This helps avoid delays and allows the photography session to move efficiently through the home and amenities.
Do I need to be present for the photo shoot?
Usually not. Many vacation rental owners use secure keyless entry or a lockbox. As long as access has been arranged in advance and the property is ready, the owner normally does not need to be present.
How should I prepare my vacation rental before photography?
The property should be clean, staged for guest use, and free of unnecessary clutter. Beds should be made, counters cleared, lights working, outdoor areas prepared, and important amenities ready to photograph. Use the 20-Step Home Prep Checklist before the appointment.
Do you photograph community amenities?
Yes, when access is available and the amenities are part of the guest experience. Community pools, clubhouses, docks, recreation areas, and similar features can be photographed when they are relevant to the rental and access has been arranged.
Do you offer aerial drone photography?
Yes. Aerial photography is available when it adds useful context to the property. It can be especially helpful for waterfront rentals, larger lots, acreage, neighborhood context, docks, pools, and properties where the overall setting is difficult to explain from ground level. Drone operations are performed by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot and are subject to weather, airspace, and safe operating conditions.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Weather can affect exterior and aerial photography. If conditions are not suitable for safe drone operations or do not allow the property to be represented properly, the shoot may need to be adjusted or rescheduled. Interior photography can often continue when exterior conditions are less than ideal.
How are the photos edited?
Images are professionally edited for straight architectural lines, natural color, balanced exposure, and a clean, realistic finish. The goal is to present the property attractively without creating a misleading version of the space.
How quickly are the photos delivered?
Finished galleries are typically delivered digitally within 24–48 hours after the photography session.
Where can I use the finished images?
Images are licensed according to the photography agreement and can typically be used for Airbnb, Vrbo, direct-booking websites, social media, MLS, and the property’s own website. If you need the images for another use, ask before publishing them elsewhere.
Can I reuse photos that were created for a management company?
Not automatically. Photos supplied or arranged by a previous management company may be subject to copyright or usage restrictions. If you are taking over your own marketing, confirm that you have the right to reuse those images before publishing them independently. A new photo session can give you a current image set with usage rights established under your own agreement.

When should I get new vacation rental photography?
New photography is worth considering when the property is first launched, after a management change, after meaningful renovations or furnishing updates, when major amenities are added, or when the existing images no longer represent the current guest experience accurately.
Should I update photos after changing the property?
Yes, when the changes are meaningful to guests. New furniture, remodeled kitchens or bathrooms, updated outdoor areas, pools, docks, fire pits, game rooms, and similar improvements should be reflected in the listing so guests know what they are booking.
How do I schedule a vacation rental photography session?
Call, text, or use the contact form with the property location, approximate size or bedroom count, important amenities, preferred shoot date, and whether you are interested in aerial coverage.
